Sylva

Sylva, 2024, oil on canvas, 60 × 50 cm

Inspired by a photograph of myself resting within the woods, Sylva is an oil painting that captures the stillness, strength, and intimacy of being held by nature. The name “Sylva” comes from the Latin word for “forest,” a reminder of the deep connection between the human body and the natural world.

In this piece, I merge personal presence with the ancient language of trees - becoming part of the woodland rather than separate from it. Draped in white against a rich carpet of ferns and earth, the figure becomes both vulnerable and powerful, echoing the timeless guardianship of the forest.

Sylva is both a self-portrait and a meditation on belonging: a return to the natural sanctuary where femininity, resilience, and growth intertwine.
